University of Texas - Jester Center

Austin, Texas

The Jester Center is a co-educational residence hall at The University of Texas at Austin, built in 1969.  With a capacity of 3,200 students, it was the largest residence hall in North America at the time it was built.  The complex includes two towers: a 14-level residence (Jester West) and a 10-level residence (Jester East).

As a part of the 2013 On-Going MEP Professional Services contract,  Encotech received a request for a thorough review for the removal and replacement of 8 air handlers.  This project was completed in two phases.  The first resulting in a report for the Academics Department and the second resulting in a report for Department of Housing & Food.  This included evaluation of existing fume hoods, exhaust fans, and HVAC equipment relating to fresh air capabilities.

Encotech identified areas where efficiencies could be gained, how to increase current capacity, and establish best practices in order to maximize existing resources.  The report outlined options for future growth, planning and building maintenance in this area.  Details included a prescribed path for removal and reintroduction of HVAC modular sections, pumps, coils, etc.  Encotech then developed a recommendation for construction phasing and sequencing to implement all equipment replacement activities within the targeted summer construction periods.
